Lenyn Sosa is trying to force his way back onto the Blue Jays roster.
He opened his Triple-A Buffalo tenure in strong fashion, going 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, and a run scored in a 10-2 win over the IronPigs.
Batting sixth and playing second base, Sosa fell behind 0-2 before driving an 81.8 mph changeup into the left-field corner.
The ball left his bat at 95.9 mph, exactly the kind of contact that got lost during his injury-plagued stretch with Toronto.
He later came around to score on a home run before lining out hard to right field in his next at-bat, this one clocked at 97.3 mph off the bat.
Sosa also battled through a five-pitch at-bat against former Blue Jays reliever Kirby Snead before flying out.
In his final trip to the plate, he drew an eight-pitch walk, only his second of the season across stops with the Blue Jays and White Sox.
Why this debut matters after a lost 2026 season
Sosa appeared in 28 games with Toronto after being acquired from the White Sox in April, hitting .188 with one home run and six RBIs.
A wrist contusion, courtesy of a Sandy Alcantara pitch in late May, ended that stretch and derailed the rest of his year.
A rehab assignment in June fell apart after just three games due to discomfort. He later got into four games at Single-A Dunedin before landing on waivers.
None of that is the player Toronto thought it acquired. In 2025, Sosa hit 22 home runs, a completely different offensive profile than what showed up this season.
That gap between the power he's shown before and what he's produced this year is exactly what makes Wednesday's Buffalo debut worth watching.
He's still part of the organization, and a strong finish in Triple-A could put him back in the September conversation.
Whether this debut was one good day or the start of him rediscovering that 2025 form is the question Buffalo will help answer.
